Converting Sant’Antnin Plant into a Public Park

Marsascala Park in Malta

Wasteserv has reported that six companies have submitted bids to transform the Sant’Antnin waste treatment facility into a public park.

The evaluation of these proposals is currently in progress, and the selected bid will be announced in the upcoming months.

The Sant’Antnin plant in Marsascala was decommissioned in December 2022, with its infrastructure dismantled and sent abroad for recycling. A significant fire in 2017 caused extensive damage to the facility.

The initial phase of the park project involves excavating a three-level car park, constructing an artificial lake, and building three water reservoirs.

The excavated materials will be reused on-site, and a retaining wall will be built to separate the park from the nearby areas.

Wasteserv highlighted the agency’s commitment to enhancing Malta’s waste management strategy to minimize landfill use and create more green spaces, ensuring a better environment for future generations.
